This Hand made Cherry Bowl has been formed to allow a broad rim that is textured and colored with Green dye. The bowl’s outside is also in the same green dye, sealed with 9 coats of shellac. Black ink lines are used to delineate and set off the rim’s texture and color. The bowl’s natural color was left on the inside, which was hollowed and lightly rounded. to solidify and seal a hole left by a knot from a branch that had grown in that part of the tree, the inside includes an epoxy fill that was dyed so as to better match the color surrounding the knot and that the wood will take as it ages. The knot was removed and the hole filled with epoxy. The bowl’s shape allows for retaining a larger mass of wood, conferring stability and a feel of solidity, which contrasts with the bowl’s thin outer edge.

A lustrous shellac and natural mineral oil finish were used to complete this unique piece, handcrafted by an artisan trained in Switzerland and in the USA.
