Viola pedata 'Eco Artist Palette
Viola pedata 'Eco Artist Palette
I have been waiting for years to get my hands on this little beauty! This violet is a selection of the US native Birdfoot Violet. While the narrow, dissected foliage - that really does look a bit like a bird’s foot - is a defining feature of the species, what makes this particular selection unique Violet world is its bi-color flowers.
'Eco Artist Palette' forms a dense clump of foliage that is covered in flowers beginning in spring. The upper petals are a dark purple while the “wings” and beak of this little birdie are a lilac blue. You can expect sporadic rebloom until the fall frost.
Unlike other Violets the Birdfoot Violet requires full sun and well drained soils to thrive. This species also has improved garden performance compared with the genus and is in no way invasive ( ask me how much i despise common violets that have taken over my lawn and gardens!) having had a couple in my previous garden for nearly 10 years, I had but one little seedling. Get one now before I decide to put them all in my garden here!
