Upside-Down Bird Suet Feeder - Many Colors!
Upside-Down Bird Suet Feeder - Many Colors!
This uniquely styled bird feeder that appears to hover in your garden holds the food underneath its protective wood disk, which is favorable to many small bird species who don't mind eating upside-down, e.g., woodpeckers, flickers, nuthatches, etc. while discouraging squirrels and some larger birds, e.g., Grackles, Starlings, or House sparrows from eating all your suet. The suet is naturally protected from driving rain, thus avoiding it being dissolved during storms.
Note that these feeders, with their assorted colors and minimalist profile, are intended to fit into environments that are more suburban than rural.
Handcrafted on a lathe, this bird feeder is made from natural non-pressure treated Douglas Fir to which two coats of water-based deck stain were applied for weather protection. As with outdoor decks, it is prudent to consider applying a coat of stain every few years to protect the wood.
I have taken care to select the best wood possible; where there are minor imperfections in the wood, e.g., knots or superficial cracks, these have been consolidated and solidified with epoxy to ensure product robustness and longevity.
The wooden feeder disk measures approx. 9 inches in diameter and is approx 3-1/2 inches tall including attached suet cage. The suet cage opens from the side so that the food cake rests securely on the frame, not on the door; unlike most suet cages that are held in by staples, it is held in place with two outdoor coated screws that are accessible to you, which means you can tighten (if needed after a few seasons), remove or replace the cage for cleaning or painting whenever desired.
Because of the characteristics of wood and because every feeder is individually handcrafted, there will be some variations between the items.
When you purchase this suet feeder, you will receive the following:
a cleverly designed product made by a bird-loving UFO aficionado (what else would explain the shape...)
a suet feeder that blends into your garden environment
a bird feeder that is favorably built for smaller, clinging birds, which should make your suet last longer
a handmade, solid product that is easy to refill and maintain
a 5in. x 5in. x 2in suet cage for use with standard size suet cakes easily available locally or online
a hook, clip and 8 inch chain for hanging in your garden or on a porch
the gratitude of a wood turner who is better at watching birds at the feeder than photographing them
Please note that suet cakes are not included but are available from a number of stores, e.g., Tractor Supply, Lowe’s, Costco, or online.
