Our nest boxes are ever evolving with improved designs and materials and are inspired by modernist styling for robustness and optimum functionality - no nails, staples nor glue are used to hold the box chassis together - component elements that cannot come apart all slot together precisely, in a specific sequence to provide a solid box.

In order to accommodate various bird species that inhabit nest boxes, we have developed a version for each - this nest box was designed specifically for the Northern Saw-Whet Owl and Screech Owl.

Should any damage occur to any of the components, these can be replaced individually. Two lateral screws that hold the oversize roof in place allow quick and easy access for annual nest box cleanout. The roof is sized to provide protection from rain, sun, and predators .

If you are looking for a serviceable, long-life Nest Box, then our nest boxes that are precision made on our CNC machine from quality, 1/2 inch thick untreated marine grade plywood are ideal for you.

The exterior of the box is a sanded, high quality grade paintable surface. We provide a number of semi-transparent or solid wood sealers/ stain colors but also offer you the option of finishing it yourself in order to best suit your personal environment and tastes and to save you money. Painting or staining the outside of your nest box will increase its longevity (leave the inside untreated.)

Nest boxes can be finished in either water-based sealers, oil (decking oil, linseed oil), varnish, or paint. We recommend a good quality, low voc exterior paint or deck stain that protects wood against mildew and mold, which can lead to wood rot, and that provides UV protection to reduce the risk of cracking and splintering. Give time for the oil or paint to dry and air-out thoroughly before use.

The interior of the box should not be painted and should be left as it is – raw untreated wood

Our nesting box design features the following:

• an interior space sized for the specific species

• an inside perch is included to allow fledgling Saw Whet Owls reach for food and peer outside their nest box

• an entry hole sized for specific bird species

• a front roof overhang provides shade, helps protect the entrance from water, and makes it difficult for predators to access the main opening

• a gap at the rear provides air ventilation to help avoid overheating

• Recessed floor and 6 drainage holes in the bottom ensure nests stay dry

• two keyhole openings in the back that allow for easy hanging

• Select between various pre-selected stain colors or not stained - for you to finish
