Note that the nib may be removed for cleaning and may be replaced with nibs from other manufacturers, (e.g., Bock or Jowo Germany.) The pen comes with a black ink cartridge; replacements are available at local office supply stores and online. Compared to ballpoint pens that require substantial pressure to allow their oil-based gels to transfer to paper, very little pressure is required to write with fountain pens.

About the nibs: The nib of this pen can be removed (indeed, you may wish to do this periodically to clean your nib and ink feeder if you do not use it often as ink may dry and impede the smoothness of flow) and replaced. This gives you the possibility to find nibs that suit your particular writing preference perhaps more so than the standard nibs supplied by many artisanal pen makers.

Note also that the paper you use can make a big difference in your writing with a fountain pen - some papers are more suited to fountain pens than others. Contrary to ballpoint pens, fountain pens use liquid ink, which can feather and bleed depending on the paper.
