Spigelia marilandica 'Little Redhead'
Spigelia marilandica 'Little Redhead'
Spigelia is rare in gardens, but then it is even more rare in garden centers. It is a worthy garden plant and should be in every hummingbird garden. A very forgiving perennial is she, with an ability to thrive in sun or shade, and tolerate a fair bit of drought! Her only aversion is to standing water. Spigelia is a true native to the mid-Atlantic and southeast, and as far west as Minnesota. It is easily one of our most charming with it’s understated beauty, and well behaved naturel
Mature Size : 1’ wide clump something under 2’ tall
Trade gallon pots
NOTE: Spigelia is very late to break ground in the spring and these are just showing growth
Indian pinks (the common name) … are not pink at all, but have a red tube that flares out to a bright yellow star at the end. It’s like a lighthouse for hummingbirds!
‘Little Redhead’ is a “selection” of the species. This means someone found a really nice one somewhere that has something special or different from the average. She is a more compact and deeper hued form of this highly valued wildflower and is she is exceptional.
For discerning birders and plant geeks.
